Well, it seems to me that there are books that tell stories, and then there are books that tell truths.. The first kind, they show you life like you want it to be. With villains getting what they deserve and the hero seeing what a fool he's been and marrying the heroine and happy endings and all that.. But the second kind, they show you life more like it is.. The first kind makes you cheerful and contented, but the second kind shakes you up. Jennifer Donnelly
About This Quote

The first kind of book makes you cheerful and contented, but the second kind shakes you up. The first kind of book makes you feel good because it shows you the way things should be; it makes you feel satisfied with life. But the second kind of book shows you how things really are; it reveals to you that life is not what it should be. It can make you feel truly grateful for all that you have and truly thankful for your blessings, but this form of happiness does not last.

The second kind of happiness has no value because it is short-lived. Your feeling of gratitude gives way to disappointment, because everything is not as good as it seems at first glance. So how do we choose which kind of books to read?
